In Match Masters, players are competing against each other through online competition matching of type 3. By Candivore, the free-to-play Match Masters offers a twist on the classic match-3 formula. On a shared game board, it throws turn-taking multiplayer battle.
In the main game, players take turns with their opponent to make lines and chains of three or more matching symbols on the board, from left to right, vertically or diagonally. Make four or more symbols lining up gives some waves; some combinations can be special in both directions. While the Hunt continues, different actions require various sparks cut free. Certain tools, such as hammers to break specific chips, are in the game. Plus, there's a single error operator, option to undo your last move.
Individual character cards are introduced to the game. Every character has unique strengths or disabilities. These strengths come into play during the game and could have a critical effect upon each turn-based battle. The game offers multiple story-lines with each path taking on a completely new theme, Center Stage, The Sorcerer's Pit, Cottage Garden, Alien Abduction, Westerns and much more besides. As you progress through the game, each path features a different narrator and unlocks in some way. Players can take part of all sorts of events, tournaments and competitions in the 2nd Strike-a-kite to earn rewards and climb the global rankings.
By playing, people earn coins to get their hands on new character skins and more features. Once they've achieved 1200 coins they can access the Teams pages so as to swap sticks, talk to other users and partake in team-only events. Additionally some characters or chapters in the story can be unlocked this way. There is also a stick collection system; when users have all the sticks in a set, they can win large rewards.
Match Masters is all about social, and Friends Fiesta allows players to invite friends and see who is active. The Teams page has a chat function that keeps people talking and also allows for you to team up with others, while leaderboards can be used to find out where the big fish are swimming globally but also from within your country or even team. Regular coins and specialty boosts are naturally part of the fun with daily tasks, spins that don't cost any money and the Lucky Spin.
In the Masters Market, players receive daily rewards and special offers, while the News section lets them know what is happening latest in the game. In videos, tips and entertainment make players look for fresh strategies. With its blend of strategy, competition play and frequent updates, Match Masters offers a new take on the match-3 game that lasts.
To the eye, Match Masters is bright and colourful without suffering from eyestrain. Clean animations and intuitive controls mean anyone can fall into this game easily. Life or the next world, whatever you prefer to call it. But while the graphics may not be cutting edge, they do serve their purpose. They provide a nice visual setting for your intense puzzle battles and that's about all you can ask of them.
