The rich, ever-expanding galaxy of mobile gaming is given further variety with Truck Star, an audacious and entertaining hybrid that combines the classical charm of match-3 puzzles with the deeply satisfying experience hands-on modification provides. Although this name has likely never graced a truck or simply avoided highlighting its links between trucking and automotive culture, the game is itself showing how mobile puzzle games can occupy a niche audience in spite of all that. As a truck maintenance shop owner, the player is asked to go and breathe new life into a rusty line of cars from an old dilapidating garage.
The core loop of the game is elegantly simple yet quite pleasurable: You fight your way through vivid match-3 stages, then spend the tools, parts and money so obtained on dismantling, repairing, and tailoring all aspects of your trucks with your own hands.
A remarkable feature of the game is that these two systems complement each other seamlessly and rewardingly. In essence, the match-3 game is not just a kind of standalone puzzle; it becomes the immediate channel to creativity. Every level you conquer in this fashion enhances your position in the garage, so visible progress is actually being made. This makes the puzzle-solving feel meaningful and connected with a greater purpose.
In addition to fancy 3D models which represent heavily overwrought ornamentation on each truck representations of the puzzles are rendered in cool 2D Art. The result is a big collection of customized motors running in one pack, all polished by designers and given a fashionably hip look. This extensive personalization feature directly caters to the people's dream machine construction fantasy, it gives them a strong feeling of ownership and accomplishment.
Nevertheless, each game has its difficulties and Truck Star is no exception. Some players' main criticism of it thus far is the slow progress from a mere collection into something more worthwhile to slide into-but that part remains to be seen. While its first few hours are gripping, the game world can't be entered all at once. Alternatively, one must import demandingly.
To upgrade one's significant vehicle parts and rank two, for example, requires an immense amount of gulf sand grinding since the new design demands that you challenge older levels or play through increasingly difficult puzzles just to meet resource requirements. This design also sometimes makes a sore point, particularly for those game players who have traditionally been more concerned about customizability.
By combining the general accessibility of match-3 with the concrete and creative rewards for simulation it's a space all to itself that (we can only hope) others will learn from someday. It is not just a perfect choice for puzzle fans but for anyone who likes project construction even a little, and can take pride into one's own makeup. Although moving through the gears may require some patience, building your ultimate truck fleet piece by piece from simple match-the-date puzzles one day all will come together and deliver a satisfactory and long-term online game.
